Meditating on one's Enlightened Self

Folks--

--The other day, I was talking to a friend of mine about religion, gods and goddesses, and how in some forms of yoga one meditates on a certain Deva (or Devas) seeking their guidance or to align oneself with their energy.

--It is also very common to invoke the presence of elightened mahasiddas (yogis) for their guidance.

--Call me crazy, but it occured to me that in a universe of unlimited possibilities, infinite universes, there must be a completely enlightened 'version' of myself out there.

--Would it be silly of me to meditate on my enlightened self, and ask for his guidance?

I don't think you'll find an actual, separate version of yourself out there. The universe is infinite but it's not redundant - there's no need to create a gajillion universes just so that in one you can pick up two cookies and in another you pick up three.

That being said, your true essence is not separate from any being, and is already fully Awake and Enlightened. Connecting through consciousness to that part of yourself would be a fabulous form of practice.

I have to say that I do believe that in an absolutely infinite universe (which I believe we are in) there are absolutely infinite variations of all things.

meditating and contacting your "higher self" is a common thing in Western Occultism, often referred to as the Holy Guardian Angel (which may not appear to be "you" per se).

but really, your fully enlightened Self is Brahman!
