Self-healing using spiritual/energetic methods

This is a question pitched to Alx... it's sparked by the "Advanced Healing" thread we've had going here in the Goddessence tribe.

Alx, you wrote: "what bugged me about Reiki healings was that they were often successful, or partly successful, and they seemed unpredictable at best. I'd go to heal someone's foot and their digestive problems would go away. stuff like that. interesting, powerful -- but imprecise and not at all exact."

Okay, previously you found healing session to be imprecise and unpredictable. Now I wonder if there was another limitation, too.

You've said that you had experience with Reiki and some other forms of energy healing, and now of course you are working with Sri Kaleshwar's teachings and that approach to healing. And question MAY pertain to all spiritual/energetic healing techniques, or possibly only to Reiki and very similar approaches. It's this: Many of us Reiki-ists (myself included) have found that our ability to use Reiki to fruitfully heal ourselves seems to taper off over time. In other words, we may get tangible and remarkable results in our own self-healing in the first few years, and after that have a disappointing time of trying to further our self-healing process. Our response to Reiki self-healing may become quite sporadic.

I should say that I'm referring to both physical and emotional healing.

I'm sharing this on the basis of having met dozens of Reiki-ists, quite a few Reiki Masters, and having participated in four or five on-line Reiki discussion groups (involving probably at least 100 attuned people - many of them RM's). I don't know if it is always a matter of people taking on the maladies of individuals they've done healing sessions with, because often what the Reiki-ists are dealing with is some old condition or complaint that they've had for many years, even well before they were first attuned to Reiki I.

Is this characteristic of many, or possbly all, spiritual healing methods that we may use? Do we each need to be healed by advanced healers?

Namaste,

  • hi, Tanemon -- wow, that's a pretty interesting question. to respond to your question about self-healing and the Reiki energy seeming to peter out, I can offer a few ideas.

one is that, over time, the Reiki energy is alive and flowing in people -- in the early stages, that's a new energy in the system for most of us.

I know that the initiations for me were earth-shattering -- I had never experienced anything like those transmissions of Reiki I and II, and later Reiki III. and then GIVING the initiations, also, as a Reiki Master -- these were powerful, breath-taking experiences. it also took a while, I noticed, for the energy to get digested -- a period of a few weeks, or even months, after those initial attunements, to integrate and get accustomed to the energy. there was a lot of purification -- I noticed some interesting physical/emotional shifts and conditions that materialized in the aftermath of those initiations.

but after a few years, whatever we've needed to get healed through what I would refer, now, to Reiki, as a particular channel into the cosmic energy (there are many such canals, or channels, Reiki is just one of many many many), it's been balanced and healed and so we don't 'notice' the energy or the shifts, or the healing, as keenly as we did in the beginning (when most of us were sadly out-of-whack).

so, partly I think the impression that the self-healing slows down after a while is that we're accustomed to the Reiki energy and it doesn't have as dramatic an impact as it did in the early days of using it.

a second issue for me -- again back to the idea of the Reiki energy as a channel, ie, a canal, into the Cosmic Source of universal energy, -- is related to the issue of decharging. if we think of the Reiki channel as an open tube through which the energy flows freely, the inside of the tube starts to get mucked up, over time (a few years is about right), with all of the Reiki healings we do on others. there is some residue, whether or not we believe it or like it or acknowledge or deny it -- about 2 or 3% of the imbalance (illness, emotional stuff, whatever) that got released from a person in the course of receiving the Reiki healing 'sticks' to the channel. (like plaque in the human arteries, say.) over time, it gets pretty blocked up.

I know this may be an unpopular or upsetting statement, but it IS an energy mechanism that is tough to deny when we look around at energy and other healers.

my imagination says that perhaps the slowing down of the Reiki channel is Nature's way of inviting people who practice Reiki to start looking at more sustainable healing modalities.

in terms of chronic and other health conditions, the ones that persist -- sometimes those are the evidence of a larger karmic condition -- and the Reiki energy simply isn't a powerful enough channel to relieve the depth/width/breadth of that particular karma.

in those cases, well, it's helpful to consult healers who understand -- from the inside -- the karmas and the degree of healing capability/energy necessary to unwind those kinds of karmas.

those are a few of my thoughts, anyway.

    interesting questions.....

    • oh, there was another element to this discussion I meant to include, too -- forgot.... *grinning* -- that is the idea that the healing flow kind of taps out, after a certain point, unless we know the source of the energy and how to sustain/develop/increase the relationship we have with the Source of it, forever and ever. and that takes some real soul knowledge, and inner hard work, to reach that level of spiritual awareness.

It seems to me... By a point some years after attunement(s) and training (at whichever level - I, II, or III), certain conditions will have responded to Reiki while others are apparently beyond its power. The conditions beyond its power will remain in place, maybe, until a more powerful (or more specifically appropriate?) healing force is applied.

Is this a way of saying more or less the same thing?

(And, no, I'm not overlooking the tap-out effect that you also mention.)

    • darn, I'd love to add something deep and profound but I think Alx has got it pretty much covered (hi Alx).

I think energy flows from high density to low density. People are probably riding pretty high and clear post their initiation, but as time goes along and they pick up people's stuff, don't keep themselves protected or cleared, the enegry channels get mucked up (your energy level lowers) and the work gets less pure and thus less effective.

I would also agree that Reiki is a particular channel (or Ray in my jargon) which may be appropriate for certain types of healings and not others. I personally stepped away from reiki quite a few years ago because it did not have enough "kick" to it :) It set me on a search for a more powerful/effective modality.

      but anyway, what Alx said...

About four years back, I was very active in an on-line Reiki group that had many people seriously into Reiki (including many RM's) on it. Even among the RM's, there were a variety of ways that people were using to try to either keep the Reiki-flow level high or build it up to a higher level - among them were re-attunement by their own RM or another master, getting into the practice of qigong (chi gung), adding Quantum Touch or some other training/attunement, learning newer and more Reiki symbols, etc.

well, yes -- in effect we're saying the same thing. one is that some conditions simply won't respond to the Reiki energy -- it doesn't pack enough of a punch -- the other is what I'm saying, above, that the self-healing capacity is still flowing, but we're not noticing it so intensely because a lot of major stuff has already been cleared out from the earlier self-healing application.

in the case above, I'm suggesting it's a matter of perception rather than a lack of the energy itself.

but I'll offer this -- when I first came back from India and started applying techniques I'd learned there (I'd spent an INTENSE month training as a healer there, in 1999), at first the healings were dynamic, galvanizing. I couldn't BELIEVE how powerful they were -- esp contrasted with my earlier experiences of Reiki healings.

I think it took about 4 months and then I started noticing that the intensity of the energy involved when I would do healings dropped considerably. this was baffling at first.

then I went back to India, got all charged up again, even deeper, in the summer of 2000, again came back and did healings in America, and AGAIN saw a similar phenomenon -- for a few months, the energy was extreme and then tapered off.

it was pretty interesting, and convinced me that I needed to get to the bottom of the whole thing. I needed to go in deeply enough to the divine and the energy channels to find out how to sustain that connection and intensity -- or increase it! by developing it profoundly -- forever.

so I moved to India for about five years.

*grinning* definitely, I can say I found what I was after.

my master in India defines these energy stages, btw, in an interesting way -- as the three stages of Illusion.

in the first stage, you're doing a practice or healing modality and although you can't feel anything (no energy, etc.) you're doing it anyway.

in the second stage, you feel some energy, for sure -- but you don't know what, exactly, that energy is. (I think this is the condition of many Reiki practitioners and masters -- we definitely jumped into the stage of feeling the energy but not really being able to identify it clearly.)

in the third stage, you know the energy distinctly and precisely, the healings are happening, and divine beings are accessible in person (like the angels, divine souls like Jesus, etc., and/or the Mother Divine Herself). but even though the energy channels are clear, and the supernatural things are happening -- you STILL don't know how to develop and sustain that energy forever and ever.

crossing that third illusion stage -- that's a spiritual master. then there's no question about where the energy is really coming from, accurately, how it's applied precisely, and how it keeps going (and increasing) forever.

          pretty interesting.

          Alx
